Stich,

Glad to hear from you. I'll let the short cover topic rest. But I really would like to know something else. As you know retail disk drive prices have been firm for a couple of months. But are they at a profitable level now ? Or do prices have to increase before the DD companies can make money ?

I've noticed that the low ratings of brokers for DD stocks rests on the assumption that disk prices will drop. I don't think anyone has priced firm prices into their ratings of WDC, HDD or MXTR. So is it possible that DD companies will achieve profitability earlier than expected because current prices are holding steady ?

Congrats on your Seagate move. I sold half late last year. But never got the top price of 48 1/2.

I think a lot of the neophytes who thought things could only go up forever expected the same to continue this year. After all, this is always a good time of year for the markets, right?? By yesterday reality began to set in and by the looks of things today, it may continue this way for awhile. Alot of traders are in these stocks figuring they will be smart enough to get out at the top and and alot of fund managers who never believed in these internet stocks finally capitulated and got in. I doubt either group will stay as long as the true believers who I regard as having been lucky enough to have not known better.

Congrats on a great Seagate play! -Z

It seems very bullish to me that the "smart money" in WDC (i.e. the shorts) would rush to cover in the beginning of the year. To pick an extreme down day was even smarter, as that huge number of shares got bought with a relatively small price rise. So, if this was short covering they may be thinking that the down side is limited here. BWDIK.
