Finally green!!!!!!!! Thought this would have done it MUCH sooner;
Toronto, Ontario, Jan. 05, 2000 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX)
-- New Edge Networks, the fourth leading national wholesale DSL
provider, announced it has selected Newbridge Networks to provide
network equipment and service management capabilities for its
nationwide network in smaller cities and rural areas.

In an initial transaction valued at more than $200 million, New Edge
Networks is purchasing the Newbridge 350 Integrated Versatile Services
Nodes (IVSN) for DSL access, MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices
Switches and the MainSteetXpress 46020 Network Manager. New Edge
Networks selected the Newbridge 350 IVSN for DSL access based on its
ability to combine DSL access delivery, ATM switching, quality of
service guarantees, and high-speed transport.

New Edge Networks already is installing Newbridge switches throughout
its network. The Newbridge network management system offers New Edge
Networks end-to-end network and service management capabilities from a
centralized operations center at the company's headquarters in
Vancouver, Wash.

"The Newbridge 350 IVSN effectively consolidates our traffic and
reduces our networking costs, making broadband and high-speed Internet
access affordable and more readily available to customers located in
the underserved cities we are targeting," said Steve Hensley, chief
technology officer and co-founder, New Edge Networks.

"The Newbridge 46020 Network Manager is in a class by itself, offering
a wide range of capabilities, including point and click service
provisioning and trouble shooting," Hensley said.

Initially, New Edge Networks is designing and engineering its network
to support high-speed Internet access and local area network (LAN)
interconnection. Ultimately, the network will support voice services,
broadcast quality video over DSL and a wide range of Internet protocol
(IP) and multimedia services.

New Edge Networks initiated DSL service last month in Vancouver, Wash.
Since then the company has installed DSL equipment in 50 cities for one
of the fastest DSL rollouts to date. New Edge Networks plans to be
operating in all 50 states within two years.

"We believe the New Edge name will become synonymous with the delivery
of leading-edge DSL access to smaller markets across America," said
Pearse Flynn, president and chief operating officer, Newbridge
Networks. "New Edge's decision to select Newbridge DSL and ATM
technology reaffirms our leadership position in a market where demand
for high-speed Internet access is explosive."

Using existing copper telephone lines to homes and businesses,
breakthrough DSL technology can provide access to the Internet and
corporate LANs at speeds up to 100 times faster than traditional analog
modems. In addition to speed, other key benefits of DSL technology
include continuous "on demand" connectivity, eliminating dial up or
waiting; secure access using dedicated facilities; and, reliability
because the network is monitored around the clock.

Newbridge Networks designs, manufactures, markets and services wide
area networking solutions for Internet service providers; local,
long-distance, and wireless communications companies; cable television
carriers; and corporate customers in more than 100 countries. The
Company leverages its relationship with Newbridge affiliate companies
and strategic alliances with numerous other networking companies to
deliver complete end-to-end solutions. Newbridge customers include the
world's 350 largest telecommunications service providers and more than
10,000 corporations, government organizations and other institutions.
Founded in 1986, the Company employs more than 6,000 people on six
continents. News and information are available at www.newbridge.com.

Based in Vancouver, Wash., New Edge Networks is the fourth leading
national wholesale player in the DSL provider market. The privately
held company is focusing on building its network in under served
smaller cities and rural areas and has filed for certification in all
50 states. Last July, New Edge Networks completed its first round of
equity funding from three top-tier venture capital firms including
Accel Partners, Palo Alto, Calif., Greylock, Boston, Mass., and
Crosspoint Venture Partners, Woodside, Calif. The company's Web site
address is www.newedgenetworks.com.
