You and I are agreeing, and we are disagreeing with Michael's position.

I'm saying that the value of the "gift" is its current retail selling value. For frequent flyer miles, this is almost zero. The fact that some people might pay full price for the same flight that the frequent flyer miles are used for I see as irrelevant. For the box seat if its the super bowl, I would say the value is very high. For a box seat at the games I'm invited to (which are just average games), its about $50. would be my guess. I'm comfortable with the true representational price of any gift. Michael says the value is what was PAID for the item, imo that is incorrect.
