Edwin, Jay is in a unique world, HongKong has no capital gains taxes. You're in the middle. I'm at the other extreme; it costs me 42% of any capital gain I take, long or short. We each have to work out fitting strategies, eh?

edwin, i guess i'm disappointed that because sftbf tipped the 100k level, it could drop 17 percent in one day-- but now it is below 100k, it is limited by the 10 percent cap trading range. it makes some mathematical sense to me, but i'd sure like a taste of the same kind of upside volatility.
i'm sure we'll see better days ahead, though.

Capitalist HK in ?Communist? China does not have tax on interest, dividends, capital gains or income from overseas based active businesses. Tax is only salary and onshore corporate profit, at 15.5 to 16.5% flat rate.

I bought, instead of original plan of selling, China Telecom (CHL) in the US at US$ 117.5, equivalent to HK$ 45.53/share of China Telecom (941). Each CHL equals 20 #941. I expect CHL to rise in HK today, with a higher closing price, and have CHL trading higher during NY open. I will then get out again. I will buy 603 at open (if it does not gap up on open), and sell before close.

My general stance on the market is negative, as the atmosphere no longer smells right (upside smaller than downside) before I get on the plane for Wuhan. 9984 continues to increase as a percentage of total stock holdings. Its size forces me to focus on the single basket of eggs.
