There is a rule of thumb accepted nowadays in retail that an unusually good experience typically generates 1 positive word of mouth references but an unusually bad experience typically generates in excess of 10 word of mouth references. Presumably based on focus group interview data. If anything like this is true, a spate of negative consumer experiences is a corporate nightmare. It's like paying for your competitor's advertising program.
