RE:"Would the $999 to $1299 "sweetspot" be coppermine?"

No, these were the lower MHZ Celerons and P-III-450s that Intel made scarce during the quarter not to mention the blowout sale of P-III-500s to the like of e-machines. Gateway also got squeezed on the high end with the lack of high speed coppermines. They must really feel like they got the shaft from Intel. They also apparently dropped the chalupa when they cut AMD K6s out of their line as these would have fit nicely in the 999-1299 range. I'm positive they also lost a lot of sales because of the plethora of sub-1000 offerings and ISP rebates from the likes Compaq, IBM, E-Machines and HP though the retail chains. A Gateway store typically only had one $999 computer on display last Q. The next highest was $1600.

RE:"Fixing that issue" sounds like they might be considering AMD processors.

I would imagine they are but the availability of an 800MHZ floppermine computer now from Gateway indicates that Intel is trying to heal the wounds...

Jim

Gateway got shafted at both ends.
