Hi Paul,
Thanks for the opinion. You are right in that everything is taxed as short term gain, no way to avoid it. I was actually going to do option 1 of the following 3.

1) Exercise all options, buy leaps from the amount I sold for (say $35) for the amount of shares I exercised. This would give me money on hand and assuming Novell went up, I would be in good shape.

2) Exercise enough options to buy the rest in stock and hold the stock (maybe write covered calls against it?). This would give me no money on hand but maybe a better ROI.

3) Exercise all options and invest all the money elsewhere in the market.
