Fujitsu, who is Nortel's only competitor in the market for OC-192, will spend $500 million to double its capacity to meet increased demand for its optical transport gear.

This is just another indication of how hot the market is for optical transport gear.

Hi Claude - it was mentioned in the news a few times - and here as well. It is entirely possible, if the Canadian Govt approves it, but empire dismantling is more an exception than a rule. T did it by spinning off LU, NCR and AT&T, but it was b/c the former CEO/Chairman Allen was under fire and the behemoth was too knee deep in *tradition*. Look at GM, some value funds [like Mutual Series] have been holding for many years just to get at its GMH. And there are many many examples, so BCE/NT is not an anomaly. The value guys buy the parent and the growth guys invest in pureplays. Right now, growth is holding court [it could change as market continues to rotate the industries and the style of investment.]

So, I think BCE would prefer to talk up its own share price [and indeed it is ridiculously cheap.] However, the growth is with NT. I don't have any BCE, so take it FWIW. Either way, I think NT will do just fine. In fact, if BCE goes on to unlock its value, it may just be the key to unfetter NT!

best, Bosco
