Robert, this post of mine goes back to Nov 21. How do you remember them all?
Re: Hlth. Murdoch gave them free advertising plus $100mil for $50ps. What's the share price now? If you think Amzn has losses then look @ Healtheons financials. All I see is red ink.
In the year 2000 losses will be more closely scrutinized by the elephants, so I don't forecast a come back until 2001.
Why are you asking me when you could ask Forrester Research.
>Cambridge, Massachusetts, Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Internet retail sales this holiday season could reach $5 billion, or 25 percent more than earlier forecasts, according to Forrester Research Inc.

Forrester had originally expected sales in the last five weeks of the year to total $4 billion. The research company also said it expects the total number of online holiday shoppers reached 26.4 million, more than its earlier estimate of 22.8 million.

The leaders this holiday season were Amazon.com Inc. and America Online Inc., Forrester said. Amazon.com is on track to report 1999 sales of about $1.6 billion, having today said it expects fourth-quarter sales of more than $650 million. America Online this week said its subscribers spent $2.5 billion during the holidays, more than double what they spent in 1998.

``Early word on the street from the retail community indicates that the 1999 online holiday season was an unmitigated success,' said Forrester analyst David Cooperstein in a report.

Traditional retailers also made headway on line this year, he said, citing gains in traffic at sites run by J.C. Penney Co. and Gap Inc.

``Despite the pressure of venture-backed media blitzes by dot-com rivals, traditional brands will leverage their physical presence to gain trust and customers, stealing the online retail spotlight during the fourth quarter of 2000,' Cooperstein said.

Certain products -- such as consumer electronics, books, music and toys -- have reached a level of maturation on line, Forrester said. There's little room for new retail competitors in those categories.

Newer categories such as pet supplies, beauty products and clothing could see another year of the frontier-like atmosphere that led so many new Internet retailers to open for business in 1999.
