Jill, with all due respect, note the following point (highlighted in bold italics) from your initial post: (please see my comments that follow)

Many of us have reaped huge rewards by investing in Gorillas and Kings--see one of the best threads on SI:

Subject 25851

We are equally interested in the powerful leveraging and hedging ability that can be obtained by trading options on our favorite stocks in addition to holding our core long positions. This thread is intended to be an open forum for those new to options as well as veterans. No question is considered too elementary to ask, and we all hope to learn from each other. Jill and Poet will do their best to facilitate and ask only that conversation remain respectful of the many differing views and styles of options trading.

The following books, available on Amazon, might be useful:

The Gorilla Game, by Geoffrey Moore

Leaps by Harrison Roth

In addition, see Poet's first post on this thread for links to some very informative options discussions from other threads.

Jeff may be asking too many elementary questions, but...

I'm not trying to say that I am a perfect poster, but I have really enjoyed my brief time on this thread. I like the serious learning, teaching, and discussion that is occurring (at all levels). I hope that we are all able to work together to keep this a friendly, and enjoyable thread. I certainly participate in enough that are not so friendly (sometimes due to my own posts). This is a nice respite.

Constructive Regards,

LoD

Jill, just wanted to let you know that your threadmates ( Rocketman, LBstocks, 100cfm, tekboy , Jill, Poet, etc. ) were very helpful and I placed my first option trades today; all on GMST. I posted a few questions before on the thread and followed up with some PMs to not annoy everyone with my silly newbie posts.

The following GMST call contracts were purchased today:

1 call of GSTHL ( GMST Aug 60 ) at the open for $18.125
4 calls of GSTHQ ( GMST Aug 85 ) at the open for $8.125
6 calls of GSTHQ ( GMST Aug 85 ) at the noon for $7.125

What I learned and comments:

1) The people on this thread / board are VERY helpful
2) I spent a lot of time thinking about a little money vs with common shares
3) I used limit prices and it helped to get my price
4) I would wait 15 minutes after the open to adjust my bid
5) The options are very thinly traded ( especially for Aug ) and lots of opportunities to buy them cheaper during the falling market and stock price falling ( volatility is good, now I will find out about the time factor )
6) I purchased the Aug 60 call as a tracking option to test its volatility and to experience and ITM call

Next steps:

1) If GMST keeps following, then I will buy 10 to 20 more contracts of Aug 85s ( OTM ) calls
2) According to some of the sources, I will not have to make a decision on these calls until April / May
3) I will sell some of the calls to buy the common later, however if I buy more calls, then I might roll them up into the November calls

An interesting experience, risky, however Gemstar is a great company and I believe in their future and bought the calls the farthest out as I could. I did not use a lot of capital and I am willing to lose it all in the calls, however it would always be nice to make some money for to buy the common later.

Thanks to all the REAL options players,

David ( the newbie options player, GMST only )

PS: I will be back later to find out on exercising these GMST options

Jill,

*OT* PMing you with "so many questions" lately???

I asked you ONE question today, which was to ask if you noticed my public post - I can't recall the last time I sent you anything private, and I can't imagine where that comes from.

IF I have recently sent numerous PM's to you (I don't think that is the case because I don't "know" you like many other SI people), but if so a private note would have been the better way to handle your frustration.

I cannot view my sent PM's at the moment, (I don't know how, but I have done it before somehow) but when I get the chance I will certainly respond to your public charge publically.

"learn and reserach before shooting out so many questions"

1) I explained *in depth* why I asked the question I did, and further explained how I looked up the ETA stock and saw another company name - so I don't get where you are coming from. 2) I don't feel it is your place to respond to a question I asked PAL in a manner that suggests I am too lazy to do research, or that I ask too many questions, and certainly not to take your misguided attempt public. 3) If you want to suggest that I am too sloth-like (LOL) to look things up then there are certainly gentler ways to do so.

"perhaps PM other members on the thread instead."

4) Not that it is any of your business, but I PM other members of SI on private matters, OT topics or occasionally when I wish to ask what I consider to be something I ought to know by now, but am unsure of, privately.

Why you present yourself as the guardian of the gates on this thread or any other is beyond me. You are obviously knowledgeable in investing, but you are certainly not my overseer.

Jeff Smith

** OT-OT ** Final post on the subject

I finally did figure out how to view my PM's and found the following: on 1/2/00 I sent you 2 PM's and twice responded to a PM that YOU initiated.

So, counting today, since as I said I do not "know" you, and have not known of you until recently, I have sent you a total of 5 PM's - 2 in response to PM's you initiated, 3 which I initiated, 1 of which was to say "never mind" to a question I had asked publically.

For what you consider to be bothering you I apologize. It was certainly not my intent, nor did I have the faintest idea you would consider it as such.

My apologies,
Jeff Smith
