Firewire will eventually get killed by a revision of USB but it's very much alive right now and has several years left to run.

JCJ -
Amiga opened the door to much of the excitement of fooling with real-time video a LOOOONG time ago - I agree that they missed an opportunity when they disenfranchised a very loyal following.

There has been speculation that 1394 might get displaced by a faster USB - after all, why have 2 connectors and standards when one will do? Much of that is driven by Intel which was a lukewarm supporter of 1394 - also M$ never got on the bandwagon. But virtually all of the fast stuff that you can actually buy and use is 1394.
