More on G* mobile sat phones, performance, etc. from GSTRF thread:

Globalstar satellite phone -- spoke with Jon today on his G* phone. Perfect reception; as good as a normal wired phone. The quality is definitely there.
Now we just have to get lots of subscribers, and the cost down to say 50 cents a minute, and G* will have big business.

The demand for this global service is woefully underestimated. G*s problem is not the price of the phone...It is the demand for the phone ....IMHO
there will be (may already be)a shortage of phones....they won't be able to produce them fast enuf and consequently this will impact revenues....$1.50 is not a problem...

While the demand for voice transmission is high, how about data transmission, broadband for the internet usage? Remember Samsung's large screen cell phones?
G* satellites are low orbit types, unlike the high orbit types of MOT's. Here is a Yahoo poster who thinks that broadband is no problem:

*Any* CDMA network can do broadband by adding an HDR modem (i.e., an ASIC) and the G* RF section (satellites) is just fine for HDR. It's just not announced yet because (maybe) QC is not ready to make the commercial commitment, but whether it is possible should not be in dispute.

There is a talk (actually speculation) about having fixed (not mobile) G* sat phones in remote areas all over the globe. Here comes another order for VLNC batteries.
