Christine Grace Bartley, may I suggest a book about Jesus that has little to do with theology. It is entitled "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell. It is written in the form of an attorney's brief but is not as dry as the ordinary brief. Just a suggestion.--haqihana

The self- understanding that Jesus displays in the Gospels is more or less congruent with the general Jewish understanding of the coming of the Messiah and the End of Times. It is tinged with sectarian themes, which is why there has been speculation that Jesus may have been involved with the Essenes, and, of course, the understanding of certain key phrases like "Son of God" changed radically as Christianity moved outside of a Jewish sectarian framework. Nevertheless, Jesus was neither a Buddhist nor, in a any meaningful sense, a leftist revolutionary. He believed that he would eventually lead the angelic armies against the "powers of this world", which was held in sway by Satan, and that after overthrowing the corrupt order, the Kingdom of God would be established. However, until such a time, "render under Caesar what is Caesar's, and unto God what is God's". Also, angelic militancy is not a theme in Buddhism. It is not really a good idea to go far beyond the available evidence in speculating.......
