I don't know about an IRA account. I have a taxable account, and to trade options you have to make a request, fill out some forms, sign them, and wait for them to authorize it. It takes a week or so, because it has to be done through the mail. Check the FAQ on ETrade. I did this over a year ago, but rarely did options until this year, when Jill and Poet started this thread on G&K options. I've made a few profitable trades, beginner's luck, but I don't want to trade options, lack the time or the interest to be a trader. I've heard options are like crack, and most option traders lose. What I want to do is build up some good positions with leaps, and maybe use some puts as hedges, this is more in line with G&K investing. Good luck.
