It indicates a huge failure in quality control. Compaq spends more than most companies on testing it's machines. They build special test jigs for each model screen them in many ways. They are very secretive about new machines though, and the prototypes are locked away out of sight to any but engineering and core teams until just before the release. These people have seen so many sytems they don't make mistakes. What they don't do, is put these on people's desks and have them use them, as their regular machine, before release. The regular people do make mistakes, and load their favorite screen saver, browse the internet and set the settings wrong, and actually use the machine all day long and get angry with IT if it locks up.
