My point is a customer is not loyal

Yup, and we have an additional disloyalty component: the shopping sites really make life hard for the sellers. You don't have any analog to that in the physical world. I wouldn't anticipate the competitive shopping sites to disappear anytime soon, as their advertisers know they have a pretty loyal audience, spending a lot of time at the site, returning to it to compare different merchants.

I used shopper.com (cnet) repeatedly over the last months to buy a camera and computer components. I loved being able to comparison shop from the comfort of my desk -- no driving across town. I managed to get terrific deals, quite a bit less than Amazon was charging. What's more, the comparison shopping was fun: I jumped from site to site just to save a few dollars and feel like I was getting the best deal.

Loyalty? I'll tell you about loyalty. I shopped a lot at 800.com while they had free shipping. I spent about a thousand bucks there. I loved the site, and even posted my credit card with them. Now they no longer have free shipping and I haven't been back since. On to the next bargain ...

>My point is a customer is not loyal
Glenn, and neither are the analyst's. Can you remember Lise Buyer? You know the pimp that asked her Amzn faithful to stand up and be counted, and keep throwing your money at it.
Now, several months later she's backing off.

Analyst Lise Buyer of CS First Boston said she remains a fan of the company, "but at some point there is an obligation to at least explain how the business model will get to profitability. I don't care if they tell me it won't be for quite some time, but I do expect them to tell me".
What the hell is she talking about? Things haven't changed!
Bezos has never had a clue about profitability, and probably never will.
Glenn you where right all along. Unfortunately you haven't made as much money as the Amzn insiders, the financial institutions, or the 98,99 Amzn retail bulls that rode this scam!
