(BSNS WIRE) Netplex Wins Two 'Voice Over IP' Convergence Contracts
Netplex Wins Two 'Voice Over IP' Convergence Contracts

Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2000--The Netplex Group,
Inc. (Nasdaq: NTPL) today announced that it has recently won contracts
with two major companies to implement sophisticated e-business
infrastructure solutions based on emerging "voice over IP" (VoIP)
technologies.
VoIP represents a key component in the current convergence of
voice, data, and video transmission through Internet Protocol (IP)
networks. Due to the sensitive nature of the implemented technologies,
and at the request of the customers, names and details of the
contracts were not available for release.
"Voice over IP represents the next major step toward leveraging
Internet-based infrastructure in business-to-business communications,"
said Netplex President Pamela Fredette. "These engagements demonstrate
Netplex's ability to deliver leading-edge Internet infrastructure
services as part of its complete e-solutions offering."
One contract is with a major communications equipment company.
Under the terms of the agreement, Netplex's e-Infrastructure Services
division will work alongside the customer's engineers to integrate its
proprietary voice/data convergence technology system into its
customers' operations. This VoIP system allows businesses to offer
local and long distance voice and data services over IP networks. In
addition, Netplex personnel will provide customer support services
including problem isolation and resolution, new feature recommendation
and testing, and advanced consultation.
The other contract is with a major petroleum pipeline company.
The customer has engaged Netplex to implement an IP-based Wide Area
Network (WAN) that will enable the transmission of data, voice, and
video among more than 100 stations. By digitally connecting the
stations and combining the customer's voice and data communications,
the company expects to achieve significant telecommunications cost
savings, increased information flow, improved response times, and
centralized communications management.
