On the surface, offering free dialup is just an attempt to build name recognition, increase Excite traffic, and "hopefully" build the broadband subscriber base. Ed, If this is the surface, what lies beneath??? I am more and more inclined to side with tajen every day. But I'll refrain from insinuating that athm (presently not worthy of capitalization) is a pos company, though it most certainly is a pos stock. What does pos mean anyway? "Is that all the company can do, run a rear guard action by laying down counter fire to prevent from being overrun?" From my Yankee perspective I would think that Ah's comment relates to two glaring lacks of management, 1- the lack of initiative 2- the lack of leadership Take what you know and what you do and do it better then anyone else. Enlist the talents and capabilities of as many individuals or companies as necessary to enhance your position and the attainment of your goal. Exploit your opportunity. Implement. Do. Timely actions, not words. Assume nothing. Have and maintain high personal and professional ethics. Check-up regularly. You know, this could be just another run of the mill .com, but the price movement is too terrible. Might be a poorly positioned .com company. But wait!, it is the numero uno, premier BB provider of today and tomorrow!! It has none of the major technological restraints beating at its door that wireless, current copper or even rival DSL has!!! Almost like The Star Ship Enterprise compared to the shuttle...but is a captain kirk at the helm??? Maybe T and Armstrong are The Cling-ons! If they were innovative they might have taken this move for free access many moons ago when it might have netted them some attention and kudos. They did not. It now appears a step...too little and too late to have much benefit. What makes their offer any different then the many other, 'free' sites? It only took us down another 3% today, that's not so bad. athm had such a big run-up the last few weeks we were certainly over due for a correction. Makes the Merrill price target of 50 by year-end look more possible day by day. I am sure now that they are assuming a reverse 1 for 2 split by years end to squeeze out the dilution management has added to the share value, factor this in and by the time we drop to $25 we'll have it knocked! Hey, I'm getting hopeful again! Earnings next week and the stock is revisiting its lows and this in the face of much 'good news' about subs and infrastructure and new cooperation and customer satisfaction and docsis and yadda, yadda, yadda. The problem is, as KB knows, management is acting like a bunch of monkeys. 1-Poor perceptual image because most monkeys are not cute. 2-Chimps are cute. Just look at how they are used in commercials by rival telecos. 3-Monkeys are a little too 'snaky', screechie and untrustworthy in manor and appearance, turns many off. 4-Chimps look more human, monkeys look ruder and not like something the average investor wishes to feel related to. Think about it. Even Darwin knew that to have a snowballs chance in hell with advancement of his theory he'd have to use chimps, not monkeys. Look at the Scope's Trial. Chimps. Heck, look at Reagan. Bedtime for Bonzo. Got him the presidency. The monkeys, they went off the air in the 60's. Guess I'm tired of feeling like a monkey's uncle.
