Regardless, IMO it makes sense to ignore what rates are doing and simply hold great companies.

Now THAT should be framed and put on a wall somewhere!

i agree.

All the fiddling we do here is to determine good profit taking and reentry points for the cycles these go through. I plan to hold my favorites in this sector (AMAT and LRCX) forever and just sell some when they get to be too large a percentage of my portfolio.

Notebook-PC LCD-panel revenue will jump 45% this year to $9.95 billion, according to a forecast released today by market research firm DisplaySearch Inc.

Strong demand and stable prices are sending revenue climbing faster than unit shipments, which DisplaySearch said will increase 22% in 2000 to 21 million panels.

The Austin, Texas-based research company said Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. remains the leading notebook-FPD supplier, with an estimated 21.4% global market share. LG.Philips LCD Inc. moved from third to second position with a 19.5% share, while Display Technology Inc., the joint venture between IBM Corp. and Toshiba Corp., dropped to third with a 19.3% share.

DisplaySearch said Toshiba Corp. was the largest OEM notebook vendor with a 17.5% global share, followed by Quanta Computer Inc. with 12.%, Acer Inc. with 10.4%, and IBM with 9.2%.

As expected, the latest survey showed sales of 14.1-in. panels are expected to jump 50% on a per-unit basis and 53% in terms of revenue between the third quarter of 1999 and the third quarter of 2000. DisplaySearch said 13.3-in. panels will continue to take a smaller share of sales, especially as the price gap narrows with the larger 14.1-in. screens.

According to the report, the trend to15-in. and larger screens is expected to boost industrywide sales 19% on a revenue basis for the two-year period ending in the third quarter of 2001.
