Yea, the registration and licensing of guns is just the next step in removing 'em from legit civilian use and banning hunting. About 10 years ago I concluded it would happen in 20 years so I stepped up my hunting time considerably to include major trips to far away places. That POed my girl because it meant less time (and cash) for exotic diving vacations, especially since she is not from a hunting background. We reached a compromise and understanding, sort of. -g-

Here in Illinois, we just had a legislative fight over making various firearm infractions mandatory felonies rather than misdemeanors. With all the trucks, SUVs and hatchback cars there is no trunk, so the pretty strict rules on how to transport firearms in the "passenger compartment" would wind you up with a felony conviction for some oversight. It failed, but will be back.

Anyway, registration and expanding infractions which would preclude legal ownership is coming like a freight train. BTW, I think that cite of 65MM guns in the US is a bit shy. -g-
