tejek,

I have read some posts on the AMD thread that are not exactly complimentary to the boxmakers, including Gateway. They seem to turn from idiots to geniuses when they decide to buy AMD chips, according to AMD investors.

Another good question is where would AMD be today, without Intel to copy?

John

RESEARCH ALERT - ABN AMRO cuts Intel to hold
CHICAGO, Jan 6 (Reuters) - ABN AMRO analyst David Wu said he downgraded computer chip manufacturer Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) to hold from outperform.

-- said the Windows 2000 upgrade cycle will take longer to implement than the more bullish analysts are anticipating because it is an enterprise operating system that takes time to roll out. Wu said the upgrade will benefit Intel in a significant way beginning only in the fourth quarter of 2000.

-- said he does not see enough upside in demand from Asia/Pacific or Japan in the first half of 2000 to alter the usual seasonal pattern of a sequentially weaker period.

-- said the current price of the stock is close to his 12-month target of $85.

-- said he doubts there will be any surprising bullish management guidance regarding first-quarter earnings when the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company reports fourth-quarter results on Jan. 13.

-- Wu told Reuters: ``Seasonally, the first and second quarter is always the weak quarter. My bet is that we'll probably upgrade the stock sometime in the June quarter to capture the PC industry recovery in the second half of the year.'

-- Wu had the outperform rating on Intel since July, when he had downgraded the company from a buy.

-- Shares of Intel were off 3 at 80-5/8 on Nasdaq in midday trade.
