OT - I use herbal/homeopathic remedies myself - feverfew for migraine headaches, echinea (sp?), zinc, Vit C etc for colds. It is a different approach than just taking a pill to alleviate a symptom, you need to integrate them into your daily life or it is not as effective. When I forget to take them I pay for it, in fact I have a cough now that's been lingering on. IMO when modern medicine does not help or symptoms keep recurring it is a sign to dig deeper and make significant lifestyle changes, which I am trying to do. I'm glad to hear the new remedies are helping your wife. My sister was on prednisone for years (for eye inflammation) and you are right, the side effects are awful and it took forever for the dr. to wean her off it.

Rande, last night on 20/20 they had a VERY interesting segment on Fibromyalgia. I was sitting there hoping either you or someone you knew would alert you to go and watch the program. However, at the end of the program Barbara Walters came on and said that if anyone had questions on fibromyalgia or the procedure (operation to remove bone in the neck that was pressing on the spine) to ask the Dr., he would be on ABC News.com this Monday , March 13th, at 4:30 to answer questions. The contents of Friday's program showed a Dr. who woke up with it one morning, lived with the pain and the fatique for years until one day he could not clap his hands together because of fatique. He had to quit his job as a Dr. and take a desk job of reviewing patient medical histories. While reviewing them he found that some of the patients were getting help from this particular neurologist ... and they had the same symptoms he had... so he went to that neurologist, his history was taken, an m.r.i. was done and they found where he had abnormal bone pressure on his spine. They removed the bone. He is today back to doing his practice as a doctor. The woman had lived with the fatique and pain for 12 years. She went to numerous doctors who dismissed it as they could find nothing wrong. Finally she also went to this neurologist and after the required tests and necessary findings, she too had the surgery and her life has changed. This may not be the exact answer for your wife but this doctor is knowledgeable , for sure. I just felt it would be worthwhile for you to at least know about the program. I wish I had the neurologist's name for you but if you go to ABC.Com for Monday, it should be listed. I know you said that the thread was only going to discuss stocks but I had no other means of relaying this info to you. Best wishes. Dorothy.
