Look at the prices of cmrc's competitors by clicking on the link for industry group at the bottom of the page. Notice the percentage drop for arba, sebl, jdsu, etc. We were not alone. Quite a few of the stocks that have had great runs in tne past month or so had bad days as well.

You are not asking the right question.

The question should be "Why did this stock move to nearly $800 (pre-split)?

The answer is simple. It should not have done. In a mania though, any price seems like the right price. Look at the fundamentals: no earnings and so no possibility of calculating a P/E ratio. Market Cap of $15.5 Billion.

This valuation is plainly absurd but what do I know?

Well it looks like it was a little healthy correction on account of a generous run-up in stock prices, combined with the earnings 'warning season',interest rate fears and other such crap, you know the usual.
