I understand there's a Chinese woman, formerly of Microsoft, who is carrying on a tirade against Microsoft in China. Apparently Microsoft's prices are the same in China as in the rest of the world, so software that costs us maybe a few hours' work costs the average Chinese months of salary. No wonder they copy like crazy. It is not just China. Do you seriously think all those millions of CD-R and CD-RD drive sold in the U.S. are for PC owners to make system boot disk? I think the Americans made more illegal CDROMs than the Chinese.
