Keep in mind that deferred revenues got a big boost from the G5 cycle, which was itself inflated by demand for MIPs to test for Y2K readiness. The company has been feeding off them ever since, which is why they have been declining for three quarters. Investors were willing to "look past" this trend, but this shortfall was a whack upside the head.
