Look at any piece of high frequency digital electronics, those little surface mount tantalum caps are all over the place - an existing design can't be manufactured without them.

Who makes them? I've seen a company or two mentioned in Investors Business Daily in the past but I don't remember which ones they are...

Just kidding about Intel being the cause of the Lucent warning.

But you have peaked my interest, what other manufacturers/industries could be affected by a shortage of ESR tantalum caps?

Later in the year, these shortages may be good for earnings for the electronics companies, as they should stabilize prices. Case in point is that AMD is charging only $5 less than Intel for their 800MHz processor. Not their standard practice.
