Welfare is typically awarded to those who contribute nothing to society. Calling elderly social security benefits welfare is, with all due respect dear Betty, rubbish. Are there inequities in the tax code? Of course, and it's not all in Cal, or due solely to the elderly. Could there be a better system? Of course. Will we get one? I doubt it.

bp, You have it half right..The problem is not the $$$$$$$ going to American..It is the $$$$$$$$$$ pulled from the SS Dividends years ago then run through the general fund..right into the damn World Bank and created $$$$$$$$ for foreign countries who never paid it back.. in fact their Rulers got most of it...

Betty, I do not mind seeing a reevaluation of entitlements, and I doubt that Bill does either. But Michelle admitted her pervasive disgust with them.....
