Goldsnow, One of my favorite readings is The American Heritage Dictionary which I purchased in NY several years ago.... And, thinking of English-averse French intellectuals, I've been mulling over a millenium gift that US scholars might send to their fellow French eggheads --and bang: I found out that a copy of The American Heritage Dictionary would be the greatest gift to give to, say, the Academie Francaise, that is the venerable institution vested with the advancement of the French language. This way, French acad‚miciens would realize how much borrowed words (from French, Spanish, Yiddish, German, etc) the English language has amassed over the centuries.... So, I stumbled across this lovely expression: folie a deux which has no longer any meaning in French (while syntaxically correct, no French speaker could tell you what the expression refers to). And I just wanted to drop it in one of my posts.... While we're at it, another interesting loan French idiom is coup de main: in French it means a "helping hand" whereas in English it means a "dirty trick". Funny, isn't it? Salutations, Gus.

We have 1) Major civil war in Columbia triggered by your mindless "War on Drugs" (despite the fact that you and your brother were both cocaine users). 2) Over a million dead in Rhuwanda, Brundi, and because you pulled UN Troops out of Central Africa right as ethnic violence was starting to rage. 3) A major war fought in Southern Europe as a nation known as Yugoslavia was torn apart with encouragement by your government. 4) A major failure of US foreign policy in Somalia resulting in 18 dead US Troops and thousands of dead Somalis. 5) Massive nuclear technology leaks to China. 6) Violent civil wars in Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Chechnya, Yugoslavia, Angola, India, Iraq, Israel, Columbia, Haiti, and Afghanistan that have been in large part caused or contributed to by your waffling and ineffective foreign policy. 7) You have left the United States weakend and vulnerable to terrorism due to your massive military cutbacks and endless "peacekeeping" missions. 8) You have abused your position as Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces by using it as a political tool to deflect attention from your sex scandals...the bombing of an asprin factory in Sudan to draw attention away from Monica Lewinsky's Grand Jury tesimony and the bombing of Bagdhad while the impeachment vote was underway in the House of Representatives. Why can't you just resign so that America can get back to work and bring our troops home? -John
