That and the fact that monkeys are running it.

ld5030, I see that I've been misunderstood again.

"Did the most technologically savvy person on this thread just call MSO/ATHM an "anachronistic package?"

Perhaps, if you changed your phrasing to the future tense by adding a few years to it, and if you added a couple of qualifiers, then I'd say yes, I may have said that. But that's not what you asked.

No, I didn't call them any such thing, as things stand today. What I actually did say in my introductory sentence, however, was this:

"To be sure, at the present time the combined MSO/ATHM platforms represent the leading edge in the cable modem Internet access sector, if we're comparing them to anything else that exists."

But I'm flattered that anyone would think that my opinions about what might take place in another "two years" from now could possibly wield so much influence. But that didn't happen, nor was it my intent.

On the contrary. My observations and suggestions were very friendly to @home, and constructive ones, in general. Sometimes, however, it's true what they say:"love hurts."

My more pointed criticisms, both stated and implied, were not directed at @home. That's a big part of the problem right there: Folks don't make the distinction between @home and the MSOs. My wariness is about the MSOs whose interests do NOT overlap with those of @home's.

"...cable seems to me to be the more scalable network (no distance limitations and more capacity), and T is much more aggressive in finding a final "solution"..

See what I mean?

No doubt. T possesses the potential to pull off near miracles if they wanted to. But T is not @home. This point is crucial at this time to fully comprehend. Sure, if some additional fairwetheredness kicks in, then there may be an extension to the romance. But it wont be reliable, because T's interests do not overlap directly with @homes, and as time goes by, they further diverge.
=====

In the event that you weren't only Joshing, regarding the effects of my earlier reply, I'll gladly continue this discussion with you and all, on cue, only this time on the Coluccio Forum or via PM, if you like. I see I'm being misconstrued here a bit too often, and my intent is not to knock @home or degrade its stock. Sometimes a well rounded nd objective view can innocently have that effect, though, especially when read out of context.

Regards, Frank
