Remember a few months ago when we discussed MGI Software's DVR software for the PC and the stock was at 4. Now $27. How did we let that one get away?

>>Fujitsu doesn't use the 4.3 platter as their "building block". They have, I am almost certain, announced a 10 gig drive already, though I can't say for certain that it is shipping. But most likely it is. They have been pretty good on hitting the transition points the past couple of years. On the other hand, they did announce a couple of months ago after Larry Sanders left that they were evaluating their drive business. We can only hope that they "do the right thing", and exit at least the desktop business. If so, that will be very bullish.

Sam,

I did some digging and I don't know how much interest there is in the answer, but here it is.

Fugitsu does have two 10GB drives in the retail outlets.
MPC3102AT-E ---- 3 disk / 6 head.
and
MPD3108AT ------ 3 disk / 5 head.

So perhaps their technical situation is not as good as the other vendors. I have no idea what their OEM programs are. The Free-PC vendors take whatever they can get without regard to performance.

This info is interesting to me because I think the disk drive collpse was caused by Fugitsu dumping disks to raise their market share from 2% to 9% (in 1998 and 1999). If in fact they have fallen behind technically, and cannot compete even if they tolerate terrible losses, then their 9% excess supply will dry up, and the market will swing to shortage of supply. And we know what that will do for prices and profits of surviving vendors.
