I think we'll get an answer in 1 week. Intel mum An Intel spokesman declined to comment on Gateway's claims, saying that the Santa Clara, Calif., chip maker is in a "quiet period" before the release of its own fourth-quarter earnings.

Steve, re: "Somebody knows the real story somewhere; we may never hear it." I've worked for manufacturers that sell into retail most of my life. Many time the manufacturer gets blamed for the mistakes of the reseller, and because you don't want to contradict a big customer with a big ego, you keep your mouth shut and take the BS. Maybe my experience makes me more skeptical of Gateway, that they AT THE LEAST exaggerated the Intel part of their lack of performance. John
