Windsock, the Polywell system cost $2800 as tested. I wonder what the Intel 750 reference system would have cost. I'm sure the RAMBUS memory alone would have cost around $900.

$900 will buy more performance improvements in other sub-systems (hard drives, Ultra SCSI-2, video, more SDRAM) than a faster processor can provide.

Regardless of the winner, I have little faith in PC World's comparison testing. Comparatively configured to them means all of the machines were shipped with a beige case. I guess that's why an Apple was not included in the test.

Windsock, in addition to Buckwheats comments about RDRAM expense and poor testing, AMD has recently made changes in the Athlon chipset which speed up performance by 1/2 to 1 speed grade. The greatest improvement occurs in memory-bandwidth limited benchmarks, which are the ones that flopper does well on.

Hi Windsock:

A year ago (i.e pre-Athlon) most would have bought the Intel party line that you wish to share...Seems now, you may be whistling in the wind!
