Jon.

There is a big confusion going on about services!

In response to your discussion with Tero.

Globalstar is serving two kinds of cellular
markets:
IS-41 (CDMA/AMPS) = Americas, Korea and few more
GSM = rest of world.

In IS-41 mode, two phone numbers will be needed for a couple
of months according to AirTouch.
In GSM mode, only one number is needed, the standards GSM SIM identity.
This means, in few weeks (hopefully) I can take my Telenor SIM card, plug it in to my new Ericsson Globalstar phone,
start taking right away in terrestrial mode, the switch to Globalstar when x-country skiing, sailing or travelling to USA.

The additional nice feature with the GSM mode is the
phones will have both mobile orginated and mobile
terminated SMS messaging (which I donït think is available in the Qualcomm unit?).
The Ericsson phone also has SIM toolkit capabilities so
I can do my banking, read news, check stocks, and send
email and faxes both in GSM and Globalstar mode.
Less need for a PDA or a laptop!!!

The more I learn about this system, the more I like it!
