ATHM is showing strength finally. The selling might actually be over, I wouldn't be surprised to see it close in the 40s today.

I also just became a member and I liked the service. The advertisement is fine with me and it even lead me to a web site of interest. I am glad ATHM did this move now because the first to market will get the bulk of customers. Altavista has held on to 50% of there subscribers in a very short period. We definitely don't need to get into narrowband and this gives us the luxury of a mass build up along side broadband.

Jay,
Did the same to check it out. Couldn't tell the difference between it and Alta Vista (I guess because 1st Up is the actual service provider for both). My guess is the winner here is CMGI since they own the 1st Up service to whom Excite@home is obviously paying a fee.

I subscribe to @home because of the great speed and AOL for the rest of the family. I've tried Juno (still can't get it to work on my laptop), NetZero (hard to get a free line in prime time) and AltaVista (1st up). The 1st Up service is IMHO the best. Excite@home picked a good partner, although I'm hard pressed to see them as a really competitive portal (but a great plumber). Good Luck.
