Well, Maxtor is at 8 1/2 pre-market (on the CNBC ticker). Do you think this is a one-day wonder or does the move have legs ? The other question is whether the up-move will spill to the other disk stocks.

I'm a bit intrigued by the rumor that a boxmaker might buy a stake in Maxtor.

We all have bemoaned the cutthroat nature of this industry as well as the seemingly hopeless position of weakness the drive makers are in with the OEMs they sell to. If the trend toward alliance that we have seen in other tech areas infects the disk drive industry, maybe we will see more rational pricing and fewer efforts to steal market share. Maybe the industry could start to focus on profits. Now there's an idea!
