Uni2 Deploys Tekelec Number Portability Solution France Telecom Subsidiary To Meet Spain's Regulatory Requirements CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2000-- Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC - news) today announced that Uni2, France Telecom's subsidiary in Spain, is deploying INAP-based number portability (INP) solution within its fixed network. The installation follows Tekelec's recent contract award from the Romanian subsidiary of France Telecom, the world's fifth largest telecommunications carrier, with operations in over 50 countries. The INP solution, which was ordered in third quarter 1999, is expected to be fully operational the first half of this year. Tekelec's INP solution centralizes the number portability (NP) capability at the signal transfer point (STP) and delivers a higher transaction rate - up to 20,000 transaction per second - than conventional service control point (SCP) based solutions. By integrating the NP server at the STP, link capacity constraints are eliminated, maximizing the power of Tekelec's EAGLE® STP platform. Utilizing the common channel signaling 7 (CCS7) intelligent network application part (INAP) to trigger a number portability translation, dialed numbers are redirected to appropriate ported subscribers in the called number's network. One of three carriers granted a fixed line communications license in Spain since deregulation in 1998, Uni2 carries more than 8 million minutes of traffic daily. ''One of our company's focus is on the business market and the interconnection to European networks,'' stated Jean Pierre Bastiani, Uni2's director of engineering. ''We expect a significant increase in our network traffic with the introduction of number portability, and we anticipate further growth as we expand both our service area and services. The exceptional scalability and flexibility of Tekelec's integrated NP solution makes it a logical choice for our network.'' David Colbeck, managing director and vice president of Tekelec, Limited, commented, ''In 1997, Tekelec was the first supplier in service with a proven number portability solution in the United States. We continue the distinction of providing the most widely deployed number portability solution in the United States market. We're excited to have our first opportunity to apply our NP capabilities and experience in Europe.'' Uni2 is the brand name of the Spanish telecommunications operator Lince Telecomunicaciones S.A.
