n the eyes of the market. a company can be tremendous as dell is, but unless the ceo plays the "market game"...saw him a lot during his book tour....where is he now....too busy scheduling his next sale of dell stock..

Boy! that says it all. It just goes to show that M.Dell was only always about waiting for MSFT/INTC to bring the markets to him. He's sitting back -so to speak, spending his previous stock profits waiting for the market to come around as if the stock market is there for him to maintain his riches. Well the market is on to his game they'll show him who's boss! Because that's what the market is all about -teaching rich people who sell their stock a lesson.

Edamo,

dell management and "mikey" included have failed in 1999 to present a clear forward vision of dell the company, beyond being just a highly efficient and profitable assembler.

I think there is a lot of truth in what you said. Many on this thread have discussed just that issue for well over a year.

But I partially disagree with you on one point:

a company can be tremendous as dell is, but unless the ceo plays the "market game", the company and its share price will be ignored.

Simply being visible is not the answer. I think that it is self-defeating when you are visible with nothing to say about "reinventing" yourself. I want substance over form.
