Hello Darrell,

Could we develop a list of milestones and their potential time horizons for Interdigital?

In no particular order:

1) Resolution of the ERICY case.

2) Progress on Japanese 3G development.

3) Movement of IDC from the AMEX to the NASDAQ.

I'm afraid that is all I could come up with. Other than technology issues with which you seem very well versed I do not know what the other milestones are.

Any help appreciated,
Terrapin

<< with the advent of the internet and the movement of the internet to countries outside the U.S. where data has not been widely deployed or needed, it is probable that these same countries will upgrade their systems to handle data >>

Thanks Darrell, for the complete and informative post and particularly the role of IDC.

On the subject of TDMA data I presume you have seen this recent newsbyte from Wireless Week:

"A successful trial of two-way short-message service and wireless Internet on a TDMA network was completed by Nokia, Lucent, Telecommunication Systems Inc. and AT&T Wireless affiliate TeleCorp PCS Inc".

There is no specific mention of voice capability in the text of the news release. Do you happen to know if these specially modified Nokia handsets employed in the test are capable of voice as well as data?

Darrell,

<< GSM is not really a technology, it is rather a platform >>

Not to nitpick but while classically GSM is a standard (maintained by ETSI), or a platform as you refer to it, it is also a technology, or at least "GSM technology" has become acceptable usage and is frequently used. Rather rhan point to a myriad of links that describe GSM as a technology I'll point to just one. It is the one below for the "The 4 operational digital cellular technologies : Jun '99" slide provided by EMC.

I enjoy your informative posts.
