I once rolled a Mazda 626 into a ditch when I tried to avoid hitting a deer in upstate New York. My wife and I were held upside down and saved by the seat belts. Fortunately, the impact was not very severe and there was only minor crush on the roof. After that incident, I paid lots of attention to rollover protection.

Many people don't realize that more people got killed in rollovers from ejection out of vehicles than trapped inside. For convertibles, roll bars and integrated seats, as you indicated, are essential.

I believe the best type of restraints is the military-style 5-point harness, but we will never get that kind of standard restraint into passenger cars. Therefore, seat belts, air bags, roll bars and headrests are all important. One will hope not to get into accidents, but the protection better be there when needed because sh&t does happen, just like this shagging market. -ng-
