The day before yesterday, AMD closed at $30 even. Yesterday it gained 1/2 on steady volume up to the end of NYSE trading. The additional gain of $1.50 in afterhours was not real (as witnessed by early day trading this morning). So, a close today at $32 will represent a $2 gain in the last two days due to the Gateway, HP, and 800 Mhz Athlon news. Those three things should have been worth more like $4 to $5, but the simultaneous drop in Intel of $5, and associated market conditions, suppressed the gain. In the end, no "good news" other than stronger than expected earnings will really move this stock.

Pravin, thanks for the correction on the increase, it was $2 and not $3. As for whether AMD finished the day at $30 1/2 or $32, there seems to be no consistency as to whether after hours trading will be acknowledged or not.....you and my broker do not acknowledge the changes; AOL and SI do.

As for what motivates AMD, I think between know and earnings, there will be a steady uptrend due to anticipated earnings and that uptrend will be accompanied by spikes as significant news unfolds (ie GTW signs up). As AMD has become more successful in its operations, it seems its stock acts more mainstream, reacting to events around as much as to its internals......at least that's my take. Nonetheless there is still some of that "Show me Stock" around it; I guess its unavoidable given its checkered past.
