Tomas and all, looks like this idea of extinguishing western influence in Sudan is getting out of hand.

Two aid workers reported dead, two missing, after rebel attack in Sudan

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) -- Rebels have killed two local workers of a U.S.-based humanitarian group in southern Sudan, a government group said Saturday.

Another two Sudanese employees of CARE International are missing after the attack near the town of Bentiu in Unity province, about 500 miles south of Khartoum, said a statement from the Humanitarian Aid Commission, an aid group affiliated with the Ministry of Social Planning.

The Sudan News Agency said the attack occurred on Jan. 2. Neither the agency nor the aid commission gave the names of the four aid workers. Government forces in the region have mounted a search for the two missing employees.

The report could not be confirmed. CARE officials in Sudan could not be reached. Christians and animists from southern Sudan have been fighting since 1983 for autonomy from the Arab, Muslim-dominated government
in the north. Nearly 2 million people have died in the war and accompanying famine.

Unity province has been the scene of other attacks on
international aid workers. In May, the co-pilot of a river barge carrying U.N. aid workers was killed when rebels fired on the barge. Two relief workers were wounded in the attack.
