This QCOM/MCOM debate looks to me like a very good example of what the authors of the Gorilla Game talk about.

First, we need to be in agreement that wireless is a Gorilla Game. So, in a Gorilla Game you have one gorilla, plus a chimp or two and some monkeys.

Now the question for an investor is which company is the Gorilla (remember there can only be one) that sets the standard, who are the chimps - competing technology, niche market, and chimps - copy products of the Gorilla.

I have placed my bet on QCOM being the Gorilla. Does that mean there is not a market for the products of a Chimp or a good return for investors in the Chimp? No.

Just given what we have learned these past 15 years from MSFT, CSCO, and INTC, I would prefer to be invested in the Gorilla.

John,
MCOM is simply a terrible investment. Whether the service works
or not is immaterial to us.
On sales of 17 million, they LOST 86 million. They have long term
debt of 75 million, at the present burn rate, they will pay off,... NEVER.

They have no allies, they set up the system on their own nickel,
they use the unlicensed ISM band, shared with every other half-wit
cordless phone and garage door opener. Your example is absurd,
everyone already has the cell phone and the laptop, what HDR means is
that they just have to buy a cable.

MCOM has no earnings, and no future, HDR comes next year and that is
the end. Pity about all the money wasted on the micro base stations
but that is just the way it goes.
