John,

The beauty of HDR riding on existing CDMA voice networks is in the way channels can be allocated by the service providers, and more importantly re-allocated, based on the demand and profitability of voice v. data. As QCOM owners, we are quite happy either way. I'm sure there are dynamics of royalties, ASIC sales, number of users per channel, ASP, and more which will make one more profitable than the other for us. The market will decide, and we'll be happy either way.

Even giving MCOM one serious leap of faith in the areas of soft handoff, power control, problems with un-allocated spectrum, and most importantly execution, the best case is a profitable niche. Not interested. I evaluated MCOM when Paul first invested in them in the early 90's. Actually bought it for my kids, but later swapped it for QCOM. No comparison as a worldwide technology or as an investment.
