Whether a 10gb drive is faster than a larger drive, not necessarily. Check the specs. They probably will be similar.

As to ATA 66, to the extent you don't want to spend the time and money with SCSI, definitely go with it. I have it on one of my computers and can notice the performance improvement.

Very unlikely. Assuming EXACTLY the same geometry (same no. of platters, same no. of tracks) the 27 gig drive would have data stored at 2.7 times the density of the 10 gig, and would therefore transfer at 2.7 times the rate since they're the same rotational speed.

Identical geometry is unlikely, but the larger drive still probably has a considerably higher average density than the smaller and would therefore probably have a higher average transfer rate.

These observations are for sustained sequential access, such as a large file transfer. For random access of small amounts of data seek time becomes more important. Most new drives have comparable seek times, though, unless you get into very expensive SCSI drives.

Neither of these drives in itself is likely to be able to benefit from ATA-66 over ATA-33; you'd have to be able to interleave accesses to more than one drive. I believe that is possible with the 66 standard, but I wouldn't swear to it.
