El-- having set the date and made it early,,, if not to the last dime of total earnings they are within 0.005 of the EPS. Just a statement that they will not warn could push the price up 1 ++ and give a little higher base to go up from when the release is made. My feelings always have been they must make it plus at least 0.01 for MC. The new guy would get put in a bad light missing this early in his cpq career as ceo. There is no one else to take part of the blame this qtr and he needs to get off on the right foot. More concern on REV. He could get punished for a rev shortfall even though the price of boxes has fallen dramatically. No concern on units shipped or eps and those will tell more than $$$ turned over. If the margin is higher why care of total rev? They still had a ton of fat to cut and that should have made bottom line...

Hold that Grassy Knolls thought, since there in theory is no more "closing bell" (afterhours trading) it would be better to just state an exact time, don't you think? :)))

Looking for some early indication of CPQ's earnings?

Have a look at OVRL (Overland) to assess the strength of CPQ's storage business. OVRL will report on January 22nd.

Overland business growth is already solid. Compaq's NAS / SAN strategy will only make it stronger.
