** AOL, Yahoo drive deals with GM, Ford

Two of the nation's largest automotive companies have reportedly
taken separate roads to launch new online marketing efforts.
General Motors (GM) and Ford Motor Co. (F) are expected to use
next week's North American Auto Show in Detroit to announce
promotional deals. Ford is teaming with Yahoo. (YHOO), GM with
America Online (AOL). The two Web portals will realize millions of
dollars in advertising revenue from the auto makers, the Detroit
Free Press said in its report. The automotive service features are
expected to cater to vehicle owners, alert them when service is
needed, offer technical advice and make users aware when new
models are introduced. AOL and Yahoo visitors shopping for new
vehicles would be linked to a GM or Ford site, the report added.

Good morning, Marvin.

While I agree with much of what you have said, we enter a critical period for AOL. It was about this time last year (perhaps a couple of weeks later) that AOL experienced explosive growth generated, most assuredly, by January 1999 earnings. That explosive growth resulted in the earlier top of $175 pre-split.

Now, we are about to enter that same period, a year later. Are we better positioned this year than last? Personally, I think we're better positioned. So, with a little bit of luck, blow out earnings, and some good announcements we could see a repetition of last year's pattern of explosive growth. I wouldn't bet against AOL at this point in time.

Take a look at the chart.
