Stories had Bobby Layne out Saturday nights before games, knocking down the scotch until 3 a.m., then throwing three touchdown passes in the game on Sunday. One teammate said the booze smell was so bad in the huddle he almost got sick. Good old Bobby, he'd forget TV had come in and they'd catch him chewing out his teammates unmercifully in the huddle, but they all respected him. They don't quite make quarterbacks like that anymore.
