The last 50 or so posts on this thread address the fact that the market discounts the holdings of the parent by typically 30-50% and sometimes a bit more. Even with situations where the parent plans on a tax free distribution of the spun off companies stock held by the parent this discount occurs (see MMWW/XPDR where a share of MMWW represents MMWW's core business and 1.19 shares of XPDR)....of course as the distribution date approaches the discount will narrow.
