PORTFOLIO UPDATE JANUARY 7:

For new lurkers, I update my portfolio from time to time so you can see how I have distributed my holdings among sectors, and track the winners and losers. This is a real portfolio – no smoke, mirrors, newsletters or other hype jobs. All of my position trades are recorded for the thread (daytrading is not included – follow the thread for those).

This is a diversified, medium risk portfolio aimed at aggressive growth without undue risk to the original capital. The largest single position is less than 15% of the total portfolio. Position plays are augmented by regular intraday and overnight trades.

New additions (since 1/1): Long – ALA, IATV, TV, MKSI, TLCM, EWM, AIS, TOM May 20 calls, DISH, EDIG. Short – EGGS, USPIX.

Out (since 1/1): Long – CONV, WAXS, LINK, BWEB, PFSW, PLUS, WPNE, MSFT, BTGC calls, OPAY, IDC, ASDS, SGNT, ESHR, SPLY, CRY.TO. Short – RHAT, JWEB.

Now holding 67% techs and 34% non-tech stocks (with 1% cash margin).

Portfolio currently –2% YTD.. Dow is up 2%, NASDAQ down 6% and S&P flat. The Internet Index is down 9% YTD.

According to the Bloomberg Mutual Fund Center, the 50% Gains portfolio ranked 4th in the top 25 US Technology mutual funds for YTD performance. It took -8% YTD to make the cut. bloomberg.com (select Technology Funds). The one-year performance of +145% ranked 10th.

Core holdings: AREM, AOL, CMGI, COMS, DCLK, FFTI, IMCL, ISWCX, LPAC, MGIC, MSGI, NSATF, RNWK, VRIO: 49%.

50% Gains Candidates: AIS, ALA, BINC, BOSC, DISH, EDIG, EWM, FORTY, GENE, HUMC, IARC, IATV, LDP, MKSI, SFP, TLCM, TV, WORK: 44%.

Tradin' Trash: None

Options: ZIXI Jan 35 puts, BTGC April 10 calls, SRCM April 7.5 puts, PETM May 5 calls, TOM May 20 calls, THQI June 30 calls, T January 2001 56.6 LEAP calls, WM Jan 2002 25 calls: 8%.

Cash: -1%.

Current shorts: ZIXI, EGGS, USPIX. Equals 14% of portfolio value long, up from 9% on January 1.

SECTORS: The portfolio is slightly overweighted with tech stocks and Internet stocks. Option holdings are included.

USPIX Short Mutual Fund (10%)
Biotech: BINC, IMCL, GENE (5.5%)

Retailers: TOM May 20 calls, PETM May 5 calls, SFP (4%)
Financial: LDP, WM calls (3.5%)
Asia: EWM (1%)

Currently 19 winners and 15 losers, or 21 and 16 if you count shorts (options are too volatile to include week to week).

I'm buying some SIGM here @ 11 3/4. It's right on the 13 dma line.

GMGC doing great again. Too bad Dale missed out on this one.

AVXT and IMGN doing great.

DGIT making a move, possibly to 15 if it can take out 9.
