Love her, but..... The Carpenters?

Sigh... I have to cut in here in defense of Karen Carpenter (and Richard too, who borders on being a GREAT producer)... Karen was truly talented. The problem is, they did all these schmaltzy songs that got redefined as elevator music. People associate the carpenters with the Barry Manilow genre, which it was, but the difference is Karen's vocals. As soon as the people that lived through the 70s forget what the Carpenters were from a marketing/pkg pov then those songs will hold their own into the next decades just like some of the old sinatra tunes which were out for a while but now are classics.

BTW I can hardly wait for the David Cassidy story on NBC this sunday!

MM: Thank you much for the attitude of your post.

You didn't get sensitive about my 'how many beans' question. You, guilelessly, made your statement.

My problem, in this matter, has two sides. One, I have, since teenyears, been incapable of Capital Letter identification of elements. In this case, I would be (as once claimed by Cobe - before I became a Creep) a reductionist. This makes it impossible to do a RANKING of a whole bunch of great stuff. Two, I feel, though do not know, that there is more percussion and melody line in what you list than in what I would have listed, if I could, and I can't.

Thanks for being unruffled (R. King),

G
